“Selvedge” in Triskelion Festival…

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Kudos to Xan Burley, Leah Ives, Alex Springer and Ed Rice, who performed “Selvedge” last weekend at Triskelion Arts’ Collaborations in Dance Festival 2010!  I was so excited to be accepted into this festival…for  many reasons, including the chance to dip my toe back in after some intense months for our newly expanded family.  I can’t tell you how sweet it was to return to the studio with these artists to rework this piece!  And, thanks to Trisk’s request that I chop off 10 minutes, it was much improved.  Editing is so painful and requires much wisdom and courage…it was great to get another chance to hone “Selvedge”  into a tighter, more potent work.  We got great feedback from a packed house, and I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Xan, Leah, Alex and Ed’s articulate and immersed performances.  Well done, all…

Reflection on Caminos Flamencos–“Suite de Cadiz”

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Flamenco…so primal.  So lifted, so incredibly grounded.  Held suspended in the raw emotion of love, of loss.  Digging heels into the dust of grief and power, stomping out anger and joy.  Delighting, unshamed, in the plain old beauty of flowing fabric and uplifted arms.

Thanks to Rebecca for sharing this (long, but worth it!):
